Vintage Japanese Carriage Jewelry Box 1970s Sankyo Music Box Made in Japan
My parents purchased this at Shirokiya while living in Hawaii in the mid to late seventies. The black lacquer Japanese style carriage is painted with red flowers and gold metal accent decals. Red and gold tassels are attached to the tiny bamboo blinds. The top opens to reveal a red velveteen line jewelry box. The false bottom can be removed to view the 20 pin or 20 note Sankyo Japan music box mechanism. The drum is labeled “CR”, although I have been unable to pinpoint what tune is playing. Listen to the below.
