Antique Sterling Silver Tongs or Georgian Sugar Nips Made in England in the 1800s
Antique Sterling Silver Tongs or Georgian Sugar Nips Made in England in the 1800s by Solomon Hougham
These vintage sterling silver tongs or nips are the classic fiddle pattern - a simple style with little decoration. The handle is wider towards the top and tapers towards a slight arrow design right above the spoon shaped ends. The handle has a rounded chamfered edge. I believe they were made sometime in the 1800s, possibly by Solomon Hougham. Research on the piece is inconclusive since there is not a city mark. These silver nips were purchased by my grandfather when he went to England and Scotland in the late seventies.
I have chosen not to clean or polish this item. I love the beauty of the aged finish and patina and will leave it up to the buyer to clean and polish.
